English Language College Golders Green College (Established 1941)
(EFL Courses for Overseas Students and Trinity Cert TESOL)
Our North London English college started in 1941! We provide high quality English courses for overseas students and teacher training courses for those who want to become English teachers (TESOL/TEFL).
Located in a safe residential area, in the heart of north London, Golders Green is just a 20-minute tube journey to the city centre where many of London’s famous landmarks are, such as the British Museum, Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square are. There are also plenty of theatres, cinemas and restaurants there.
You can find us on Golders Green High Road; a vibrant high street above two coffee shops (Starbucks and Costa) where you can meet up with friends and enjoy your break time. Simply walk up the stairs and you will find our main reception area. Our classes are held in bright classrooms with period windows spread over three floors. In Golders Green you will find a number of different nationalities which bring many diverse cuisines and shops, so you are never too far from your own culture! There is a church close by, a mosque, several synagogues and a Buddhist meditation centre. There are several gyms and leisure centres within walking distance and a couple of tennis clubs in the area, you are sure to find a recreation that suits you.
It’s often easy to forget you are in London when you have two massive parks just a 10-minute walk from the college; Golders Hill Park and Hampstead Heath. Golders Hill Park’s landscaped grounds contain beautiful plant displays including the peaceful Mediterranean and water gardens, a popular café and a bandstand. Hampstead Heath, which joins Golders Hill Park, is one of London’s most popular open spaces. An island of beautiful countryside.
We provide English language courses at all levels from Beginner to Advanced in the morning (Monday to Friday, 09:30-12:30) and 2 levels in the afternoon (Monday to Friday, 14.00-17.00).
Evening & Saturday Courses
If you can’t study in the day, then join our evening classes; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18:00 to 21:00. Our weekend classes on Saturdays from 10:00 to13:00 are another option if you don’t have time during the week.
Pronunciation & Conversation Classes
We also provide conversation classes and a pronunciation class in the afternoons from 13:00 to 14:00 (weekdays). You may also be able to attend our free afternoon classes that are taught by our trainee teachers when we run our teacher training course.
Cambridge Exam Classes
Many of our students prepare for the Cambridge exams such as IELTS, FCE, CAE and CPE. We can provide group classes or private tuition.
Business English is taught on a one-to-one basis or we can teach closed groups. This course is not only for business people but for anyone who wants to start working in the UK. We will help you write your CV and prepare you for those all important job interviews.
All our teachers have recognised qualifications such as the Trinity Cert TESOL or the Cambridge CELTA. Our teacher trainers also have advanced qualifications such as the Cambridge DELTA. All teachers satisfy the British Council requirement for professional standards and qualifications.
Most students on our English language courses are over 18 years old however, we do accept students aged 16-17. Please note the following:
- 16-17 year olds will be treated as adults and attend classes with adults.
- We do not supervise students at break times and they will travel between the school and their home stay or guardian’s home unsupervised.
- We can arrange homestay accommodation either with one of our homestay hosts or through an agency called Host International. Students aged 16-17 years old will be provided with meals by their homestay host.
- Parents or guardians must inform the college in writing if they have made alternative accommodation arrangements.
- All parents or guardians of students aged 16-17 years old must sign a consent form agreeing to the above.
One of the best things about studying in London is the chance to meet like-minded people from all over the world! Here in Golders Green College we teach over 35 different nationalities within the year. We organise a terrific social programme which includes theatre and musical outings, school trips to various cities and landmarks around the UK and Europe, pub quiz nights and football/volleyball games!
The college’s social programme is not compulsory and is not specifically designed for under 18s. Certain activities are not suitable for students under 18 although we do aim to provide some activities that are suitable for under 18s. Students attending social events will travel home alone.
We have a computer room where you can check and send emails and surf the internet. We also have WiFi all over the college, so you can access the internet on your mobile or other device. Free tea, coffee and biscuits are provided daily to help you stay focussed for longer!
Golders Green College is accredited by the British Council and is a member of English UK. Our Cert TESOL teacher training course is validated by Trinity College London.
